Kayodé
The village of Kayodé gathers an Amerindian community Wayana located in the Haut-Maroni, on banks of the Tampoc, in the south-west of the Guyana on the commune of Maripasoula.
This community is concerned with the project of national nature reserve of South-Guyana.
Environment
The neighborhoods of Kayodé of an extreme ecological richness, but are very degraded by the research of the Or and the mercurielle pollution of which it is the cause, and who grows since 1996, according to the analyzes. It is with Élahé the village where the French studies detected the highest rates of mercury in the hair. The populations are invited by the State to eat less fish because of the mercury rates in the Tampoc and its affluent the Waki, but those require that one put an end to the illegal Orpaillage. As in the other villages Wayana, the populations are subjected to pressures on behalf of the clandestine gold washers.
The children Wayana must go to school far from their family to Maripasoula, where they are lodged in not-Amerindian families of reception.
This territory is theoretically protected and accessible only on prefectoral authorization, but the gendarme S are very few and miss means vis-a-vis the extent of the problem.
The State set up a network of actors which through the operations Anaconda and of taken back the clandestine ones at the border tries to control the problem. However, for the inhabitants, these efforts are still insufficient.
