Kayak

Origins

In the beginning Boat of Hunting and fishing, this marine boat, fruit of a secular tradition, is used by the Inuit S, so called Esquimaux. The traditional construction of a kayak can be realized only with materials, know-how and the Outil S which belong to the culture of the polar people: an infrastructure in floated Wood, Os of Reindeer S, Mammalian leather bonds of marine, the hull consisting of skins of Seal S bent and sealed between them. Any nail, screw, rivet, bolt or another fastener are excluded from this technology.

It is amusing to note that the word kayak is a palindrome, it is read pareillement from right to left and from left to right.

Description

The kayak and its user form an interdependent unit because a skirt ensures the sealing between the binding-strake and the kayaker whose anorak is also tight. In the event of upsetting called also desalting, the kayaker can rectify his kayak using one of the techniques of “Esquimautage”, which consists of a swaying walk coordinated in a support in water.

The kayak is distinguished easily from the Canoë, another type of boat, by the very low and sat position of the kayaker who is added for the use of the double paddle. The two words canoe and kayak join however in the name of the sport which gathers them, the canoe-kayak . This association creates a confusion in a spirit not informed because the canoe-kayak does not correspond to a type of Bateau.

The polar kayak of hunting inspired the construction of kayaks which sail under all the Latitude S and in all the Eau X salted or soft of the world. There exists about it in waterproofed fabric tended on possibly dismountable rigid framework, out of plywood wood, laminate of various resins and current plastics. The forms diversified to adapt to many sporting specialities, watery plays and leisures.

Competition

The kayak is an Olympic sport since 1936 thanks to the race in line . The slalom was for the first time disciplines Olympic in 1972 then disappeared until in 1992 and the Olympic Games from Barcelona. The not-Olympic disciplines are the descent and more recently the freestyle , the wave-ski and the kayak sports shirt.

Race in line : on a calm water level, the competitors divided into corridors, must traverse a distance given in order to cross in first the finishing line (near to the Aviron). The distances are of 500 meters for the women and 500 to 1000 meters for the men, but also moreover long distances of 2à5 km according to the category and still the marathon and the semi-marathon much harder physically. In addition, the kayaks can be single-seat, two-seater or quadruple (one speaks then about K1, K2 or K4).

Slalom : on turbulent water, the competitors must traverse a distance of approximately 300 meters and negotiate 18 to 25 doors in a minimum of time. There is plusior types of doors: the green doors which are crossed in the direction of the current, the red doors which cross with counter-current the door in " sky" who are on two piqué. There exist various types of boats to practice the slalom: the single-seat kayak (the kayaker sat in the boat), the single-seat canoe C1 (the canoeist is with knees in its boat and uses a simple paddle with a blade), the two-seater canoe C2. Generally the boats of the slalomeurs of competition are in kevlar or carbon fiber or a mixture of both called kevlarcarbon or kavcarb for the kayaker: technological advances of the last years made that the design of the boats of slaloms is unceasingly marked by the advent of new forms and volumes. Currently the tendency is with the boats known as " courts" measuring less than 4 Mr.

Descent : on fairly turbulent running water, the candidate must go as quickly as possible from a point to another of the river. - it is a race against the clock - it is a question of choosing well its trajectory according to the currents and of the natural obstacles which the rocks form. There exist 2 types of races: the descent " classique" from one duration from 12 to 25 minutes, and the descent " sprint" from one duration from 1 to 2 minutes on a race sprint there are 2 handle (2 times the same course).

Kayak-sports shirt : on water level calms, the Kayak sports shirt is a collective sport which sees to be opposed 2 teams of 5 players over periods of 2 times 10 minutes. It is a spectacular sport where it is necessary to associate ease in boat with address with the balloon and team spirit. One can compare it with toilets sports shirt but in a boat!

Freestyle : on running water, Freestyle is practiced on " spots" (waves or rollers formed by the current), one speaks then about " park' play" , and the practitioner uses the water movements and the relief to carry out figures. The practitioners of this discipline often meet in the form of " team" where they organize many festivals together joining together concerts, spectacle watery like aérien.
Les " freestylers" or " rodéomans" do not hesitate to traverse several hundred kilometers to the research of the " spot" perfect (most known is the Hawaii-on-Rhone, then one can quote Charnay, Rabioux etc)

Wave-ski : on a beach with waves, the wave consists in connecting the most figures, following the example freestyle. This discipline is a compromise between Surf and kayak. See also: Kayak Surfing.

Merathon : on a course at sea, Mérathon is a race long distance in the kayak of sea, surfing-ski or in the dugout.

Marathon : the marathon is a race of long distance on water level or river with the possibility of carrying out 2 or 3 bearings. The tests last 2 or 3 hours even more.

Dragon Boat : The Boat Dragon is composed of a crew of a score of paddlers. It is a Chinese boat which goes back to more than 2000 years.

the dugouts or Va' has : Originating in the Southern Pacific Islands, it is a boat which behaves of 6 paddlers.

The kayak with the female one

Already 25% of practicing. The federation began and invited the whole of the sporting structures to take part in national competition " Women and Sports" organized by the Ministry for health, youth and the sports to propose the image of the women and the role of the women in the sport.
