The Kaws are Amerindian people center of the the United States of America.
The named tribe Kaw was also called the Peuple of the Wind ( Wind People ), Kaza , Kanza , Kosa and Kasa . The name Kansas is derived from the name of these people. Kaws are close relatives of the tribe of the Osage S; it was even sometimes affirmed that they were of Osages. The only Amerindian to have reached the post of vice-president of the United States east Charles Curtis, which assumed this station of 1929 to 1933 pennies the presidency of Herbert Hoover. His/her mother was Kaw.
In 1898, the Curtis Act widens the powers of the federal government on the Indian businesses. In 1902, a decree of the Congress put an end to the recognition of the tribe kaw as a legal entity. It will tranféra 0.6 km ² at the federal government and 6.6 km ² of the territory kaw in Curtis and its children.
The Kaw Nation of Oklahoma reconquered its recognition. It is currently established with Kaw City (Oklahoma).
April 23rd, 2000, the Kaw last of pure stock, William A. Mehojah, died out.
