Kauhajoki
Kauhajoki is a city west of the Finland, in the province of Western Finland and the area of Ostrobotnie of the South.
Geography
It is the largest commune of the area. It offers a good summary besides of it: North is deprived of relief and agricultural, whereas the southern quarter belongs to the moraine of the Suomenselkä, and is thus undulating and wooded. The common one belongs to rare to count two national parks: Kauhaneva-Pohjankangas protects a zone from marsh and Lauhanvuori surrounds the highest hill of the area, the mount Lauhanvuori, which dominates the plain of more than 100 meters.The municipality marks the starting point of the river Kyrönjoki, the major river of the area, whose valley is classified national landscape.
Kauhajoki is bordered by the municipalities of Karvia and Honkajoki in the south (Satakunta), Isojoki in south-west, Karijoki and Teuva in the west, Kurikka in north and Jalasjärvi in the east.
History
Kauhajoki enters the history the August 10th 1808. 5 km in the south of this small agricultural borough, the Swedish gain important a defensive victory against the Russian , within the framework of the Guerre of Finland. A few months later, Sweden loses the war and Finland is attached to Russia.Kauhajoki is found for the second time in the foreground of the national history in 1939, again in time of war, during the Guerre of Winter this time. The Parliament flees Helsinki bombarded and takes refuge in this commune of Ostrobotnie. It will sit there of February 1st, 1939 to the February 12th 1940.
Kauhajoki became a city on July 1st 2001.
