Kathleen Battle

Kathleen Battle is an American Soprano , born the August 13rd 1948, with Portsmouth, in the Ohio. It is youngest of a family of seven children. She accepted a diploma of the academy of music of the Université of Cincinnati, but she initially preferred to study musical education rather than interpretation. She accepted her control and began her career from teaching in Cincinnati in 1971. While she taught the music in 5th and 6th degree, she studied the song. After a hearing with Thomas Schippers (leader of the Symphony orchestra of Cincinnati at that time), Battle was engaged, in spite of its lack of experience, to take part in the Festival of the Two Worlds of 1972, with Spoleto in Italy.

Its career in classical music and opera progressed in the years 1980, when its Voix colorature found the favor of two big bosses: Herbert von Karajan, installed in Europe, and James Levine, director of the music to the Metropolitan Operated New York.
