Katherine Dunham Company

The Katherine Dunham Company is an American company of Contemporary dance created by the dancer and choreographer Afro-American Katherine Dunham. She was made up dancers, singers, actors and musicians.

Katherine Dunham Company was the first company of entirely made up dance Afro-Americans. Its rounds carried out it through the the United States, including in the segregationist south . It was founded besides after the dissolution of the Negro Ballet , the first company of Katherine Dunham, which later will become the Negro Dance Troupe .

Several dancers Afro-Americans were trained within the company, of which in particular Alvin Ailey.
