Kataja

Kataja is a island north of the Gulf of Bothnia separated by the border between Finland and Sweden.

The Frontière was established in 1809 by the Traité of Fredrikshamn which puts an end to the Guerre of Finland between the Sweden and the Russia, the Grand-duché of Finland making at the time part of the Russian empire. To this period, the border passed in the the Baltic, the island of Kataja had not increased yet while being connected to the old island of Inakari because of the isostatic rebound. Since the meeting of the two islands which makes of Inakari long a Péninsule of Kataja, the border crosses the island of north to the south, the Finnish part being consisted the peninsula of Inakari and the Swedish part being made up of the remainder of the island.
