The club is founded in 1947 and bears then the name of Sumimoto Metal Industry. Initially based with Osaka, he moves with Kashima in 1975. He changes name to become Kashima Antlers in 1992 with the creation of the J.League. In 2000, it becomes the first club Japan board to carry out the triplet: Championship, Cut, Cut of the League.
