Kasbah of Oudaïa

The Kasbah of Oudaïa is a small strengthened district located at Rabat (Morocco). It was in the beginning a small fortress set up by the Almoravides to fight against the tribes Bouraghouata. However its history begins only with the Almohades which make a Ribat surplomblant of it the mouth of the wadi Bou Regreg that it names Mehdiya.

The site fell in disuse after the Almohades and it is the arrival of Morisques of Andalusia which will make it reappear. The Kasbah was going to be restored and reinforced. The Dynastie alaouite will undertake alteration work in its turn of the site between 1757 and 1789 then between 1790 and 1792. All this agitated history of the site shows through through the monuments which composes the Kasbah of Oudaya the such enclosure Almohade and its famous monumental door (Bab el Kébir) one of the emblems of architecture Almohade, the mosque known under the name of Jamaa el Atiq, the enclosure alaouite and the princely house drawn up in the west and the fortification borj Sqala.
