Karlfried Graf Dürckheim

Karl Friedrich Alfred Heinrich Ferdinand Maria Graf Eckbrecht von Dürckheim-Montmartin (October 24th 1896 with Munich - December 28th 1988 with Todtmoos in Black Forest) is a Diplomate, a psychotherapist and a Master German Zen .
After having attended Realgymnasium (modern college) with Coblentz and Weimar, Graf Dürckheim takes part in the First World War as an officer of the royal regiment of infantry of Bavaria. In 1919, it starts by studying the political economy German, then is reorientated in Philosophie and Psychologie. In 1923, it prepares a thesis of doctorate on the transformation Être (forms of the lived experiment) and the analytical psychology of situation. In 1927, he becomes assistant at the university of Leipzig, where he finishes in 1930 his doctorate. Starting from 1931, Dürckheim is professor of psychology, with Breslau then with Kiel.
In 1935, it works for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. It carries out research on the bases of Japanese education and the zen Buddhism.
In October 1945, it is stopped by American. Dürckheim returns to Germany only in 1947. It develops the spiritual bases of its “initiatory therapy”. With Marie Hippius, it conceives, builds and arranges, with Rütte, close to Todtmoos, in Black Forest, a “Training center and meetings of existential psychology”, which is also a school of initiatory therapy. Just like Hugo Makibi Enomiya-Lassale, Dürckheim contributes to spread the Zen movement in Germany.
