Karla Jay

Karla Jay (born the February 22nd 1947) is professor of English Littérature and director of the program of female studies with the Université Pace. Pionnière of the studies LGBT (like Lillian Faderman), it published many works.

Born Karla Jayne Berlin with Brooklyn, of a Jewish family preserving, it follows the courses of the Berkeley Institute, a private school now called Berkeley Carroll School. With the Barnard College, she studies the French and receives her diploma in 1968, year when she expresses near the students of the Université Columbia.

She takes part in several groups and associations of feminists lesbians since 1969 with the Redstockings , then within the Gay Release Face (GLF) after the riots of Stonewall in 1969. She also took part in association Lavender Menace in reaction to remarks lesbophobes in the community Féministe.

She in particular encouraged the expression and the diffusion of the texts and theories lesbians, and gave an account of the efforts of the young gays and lesbians to becoming visible and affirming themselves in the company.
