Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth
Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth (April 4th 1892 - May 6th 1979) is a German Astronome .
He discovered many Astéroïde S (almost 400), of which the first was (796) Sarita in 1914, while working with the Observatoire of Königstuhl to Heidelberg, in Germany of 1912 with 1957.
Among his most remarkable discoveries, one can quote the asteroids Apollo (1862) Apollo (who gave his name to the group) and (69230) Hermes. He also discovered:
- the Trojan asteroids (911) Agamemnon, (1143) Odyssey, (1172) Énée, (1173) Anchise, (1208) Troïle, (1404) Ajax, (1437) Diomède and (1749) Télamon.
- (5535) Annefrank which was visited later by the probe Stardust.
- two Comet S periodicals, 30P/Reinmuth and 44P/Reinmuth.
- the asteroid (1111) Reinmuthia which bears its name.
In 1953, it published a catalog of 6 500 asteroids with their position.
The first letters of the minor planets 1227 to 1234 (GSTRACKE), all discoveries by Reinmuth, form the name of Gustav Stracke, an astronomer and German calculator of orbit, which had required that one not give his name to a planet. Thus, Reinmuth paid homage to him, while respecting its will.
