Karl Theodor Ernst von Siebold
Carl Theodor Ernst von Siebold is a anatomist and a German zoologist , born the February 16th 1804 with Würzburg and dead the April 7th 1885.
Siebold is the son of a Médecin and member of a family which counts many scientists. It makes studies of Médecine and Science at the university of Berlin and becomes successively professor of Zoologie, Physiologie and Comparative anatomy with Kaliningrad, Erlangen, Freiburg-in-Brisgau, Breslau then with Munich.
In collaboration with Friedrich Hermann Stannius (1808-1883) it publishes a handbook of comparative anatomy. In 1848, Siebold founds, with Rudolph Albert von Kölliker (1817-1905) a publication which quickly becomes one of most important of the scientific literature in biology: Zeitschrift fur wissenschaftliche Zoology .
He is also the author of work in Helminthologie and Entomologie. Even if it is not at the origin of fundamental discoveries, its activities do of it one of the great names of the German biology of its time.
He is the cousin of the botanist Philipp Franz von Siebold (1796-1866).
