Karl Patterson Schmidt

Karl Patterson Schmidt is a American zoologist , born the June 19th 1890 with Lake Forest in Illinois and dead the September 26th 1957 with Chicago.
Wire of a German professor of in an establishment of higher education of Lake Forest where the Schmidt young person makes his studies. The family leaves the city in 1907 and settles in the Wisconsin to start a farm.
Its professor of Biology, James G. Needham, encourages it to resume his studies. What it does in 1913, and Schmidt settles in Cornell in the residence of Needham. During almost four years, he is assistant with the Université of Cornell.
He directs himself initially towards the Géologie but discovers the Herpétologie during a four months training course that he makes in 1915 in Louisiana at Perdee Oil Company.
In 1916, on the recommendations of Mary Cynthia Dickerson (1866-1923), it off obtains a station of assistant within the department of herpetology to American Museum Natural History. He works initially on specimens collected by a forwarding made with the Congo.
In 1922, it becomes preserving department of the Amphibien S and Reptile S with the Field Museum off Natural History of Chicago. It will do of it one of the most famous research centres in herpetology of the world.
It leads or takes part to many forwardings: Santo Domingo (1916), Puerto Rico (1919), Honduras (1923), Brazil (1926) in the Pacific Islands (1928-1929). In 1941, it becomes preserving as a chief of the Natural history museum, function which it preserves until his retirement in 1955. At the time of this one, it is made preserving fee.
He is the author of more than 200 articles or books, some bound for the general public. Although apart from description of species, it did not carry out great discoveries, it had a considerable influence in herpetology and on the orientations of very many young people.
