Karl Friedrich von Gärtner

Karl (or Carl ) Friedrich von Gärtner is a Médecin and a German Botaniste , born on May 1st 1772 with Göppingen and dead on September 1st 1850 with Calw.

He is the son of Joseph Gärtner (1732-1791), botanist, director of the Botanical garden of Saint-Pétersbourg. He studies the Médecine with Iéna, Göttingen and Tübingen. Gärtner opens a cabinet of general medicine in Calw in 1796. In 1800, it closes its cabinet and decides to be devoted to the Botanique.

In 1802, it travels in England and to the Netherlands. Starting from 1824, it studies the hybridization of the plants. In 1826, he becomes member of the Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina.
