Karl Friedrich Naumann

Karl Friedrich Naumann (May 30th 1797 - November 26th 1873) is a German geologist .
He is born with Dresden, wire of the Musicien and Compositeur Johannn Gottlieb Naumann (1741-1801). He studies with Freiberg with Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749 or 1750-1817), then with Leipzig and Iéna. In 1821 and 1822 it travels in Norway and its observations and its publications on the Cristallographie, the Minéralogie and the Géologie of this country establish its reputation.
Of 1823 with 1824 it teaches with Iéna then Leipzig. In 1826 he becomes professor of crystallography in Freiberg, in 1835 professor of geology and in 1842 professor of geology and mineralogy in Leipzig. In Freiberg it starts to prepare a geological map of the Saxony which it publishes in 1846 with the assistance of Bernhard von Cotta. It receives the Médaille Wollaston in 1868.
A crater on the the Moon bears its name.
