Karibs
Indigenous people of Central America, which practiced the Anthropophagie. Karibs (or Caribes or the Caribbean) will give their name to the famous sea of Central America (the Caribbean).
The designation of the West-Indian Caribbean in the language Arawak, caniba , was in addition transposed, via Spanish, in many European languages, for example French, giving to the adjective and substantive “cannibal”.
Following the first contact with these Amerindians, Christophe Colomb will note in his newspaper: “Of the men who had only one eye, and others which had muzzles of dog and which nourished human flesh: as soon as that they captured one of them, they decapitated it and drank its blood, and they cut nature to him. ”
