Kargo editions

The Editions Kargo , based in Paris, were create by Alexandre Laumonier in 2000, in the tread of the review Nomad' S Land , whose first number appeared in 1997. More than one about fifty authors were published since this date; much of them, mainly Anglo-Saxon, thus on the occasion to be published in French for the first time.

Polyphony of the Rebirth to the contemporary electronic musics, theater élisabéthain with the current surgery, several leading lines were outlined. Nomad' S Land and the first works are intéresserent with the cultures and the popular musics of the twentieth century, with their styles, their respective stories and with the various techniques implemented (David Toop, Ulf Poschardt, S.H. Fernando Jr., Julian Cope, etc). The publication of works of Sociology and cultural Histoire (Paul Gilroy, Jean-Paul Levet) then had like objective a major exploration of the social and political processes to work in the cultural facts (body and policy at William T. Lhamon or Franko Mark). In parallel, Kargo was interested in the Théâtre élisabéthain (Thomas Middleton), with the Esthétique of the Rebirth (Paul Van Nevel), that of the black (Arnaud Maillet) or the body (max Aguilera-Hellweg)…

Google Books

Since 2007, all the works published by the Kargo editions are consultable in integrality and free on the site of Google Recherche of books or starting from the site of the Kargo Editions

The Kargo Editions were among the very first editors to be signed with the program Google Livres, which allows the editors who wish it to make available the consultation and the indexing of their works on the site of Google. In 2006, a " Rebond" Kargo Editions published in Release (newspaper) , in favor of the program Google Books, caused the polemic (in spite of a development) and the passage to the emission the Mornings of France Culture of its director was worth at the publisher some threats of boycott on behalf of booksellers not having really included/understood at the time the interest of the step of Google (today the independent booksellers work hand in the hand with Google Livres to create a platform Internet of the independent bookstores). The position of Kargo was also highly criticized by the National library of France. The debate on the numerical existence of printed books is far from being completed, even if increasingly thorough technologies irremediably carry out to make coexist in the future the versions papers and numerical books.

The Kargo Editions have for the moment selected to work with the site Lekti Ecriture to sell on line their works. As much since Internet site publisher that since Google Books, it is via this platform which Net surfers is encouraged with achcter on line the works (rather than via Amazon.com, Fnac.com, etc)

Future and scuttling

The affiliation of the Kargo Editions with the Editions Amsterdam will have obviously made failure, and Kargo decided to scuttle in May 2008 at the conclusion of some new publications. According to the explanations of its leader, the fact of not having succeeded in finding a home port perennial but more especially the variation growing between unquestionable public and the edition of social sciences seem to be crippling as for the existence even of Kargo, which thus announced its scuttling.

But another project, rather atypical, is announced: Hot areas
