Karesuando
Karesuando (in Finnish Kaaresuvanto and in Sami Karesuanto , Gárasavvon or Karasavvon ) is a village of Lapland. It has as a characteristic to be crossed into two by the border between the Finland and the Sweden, materialized by the Rivière Muonio. Until 1809, Karesuando formed only one village, but at the end of the Guerre of Finland and following the Traité of Fredrikshamn signed between the Royaume of Sweden and the Russian Empire it was found divided into two.
Today, the village counts 470 inhabitants, including 140 on the Finnish side. The Finnish part belongs to the municipality of Enontekiö and leaves it Swedish is a village of the Commune of Kiruna. The border post which connects the two parts is not passage between Sweden and Finland more in north.
Karesuando marks the junction between the European roads E8 and E45, as well as the northern end of the latter, term of a course of 4.920 km since the Sicily.
Each of the two parts of the village has the basic services, Hôtel, Restaurant and health center. The church of the Swedish village is most septentrional of the country.
