Karel Lamač
Karel Lamač (January 27th, 1897, Prague - August 2nd, 1952, Hamburg) is an actor and Czech realizer .
It is also known under the names of Carl Lamac , or Charles Lamac .
Biography
Born in 1897 in Prague (then in Austria-Hungary), he prefers to direct himself towards the music and the theater that towards pharmacy like would have wished it his/her parents.He makes his beginnings in the cinema during the First World War, by carrying out reports in Germany. It is in this country that he is noticed and begins his career from actor in 1918. Star of the dumb man, it is required for roles of seducer. He undertakes in parallel an activity of chief technical officer and writing of the scenarios.
He becomes the companion of the actress Anny Ondra, with whom he often divides the poster. In 1930, they found together the production company Ondra-Lamac-Film in Germany; their separation and the marriage of the actress with the boxer max Schmeling in 1933 does not start their professional collaboration; they continue to turn together and their company will produce to the war.
The arrival of the sound Cinéma will make evolve/move the career of Karel Lamac, which turns to the realization. With the come to power of the Nazism, he prefers to turn abroad, in the United States, in England and France or he carries out english language versions or Frenchwomen of his Czech films.
With the arrival of the Second world war, Lamac leaves the Czechoslovakia; it gains the Netherlands then the the United Kingdom.
After the war, it takes again its career of realizer in 1947 in France, then in Germany and in the United States. This episode of its career is rather short, because an heart attack carries it in 1952.
