Karavanke

The Karavanke (German: Karawanken ) is a solid mass of the Eastern Préalpes Southerners. They rise between the Slovenia (Low-Styrie, province of Carinthie, Carniole) and the Austria (Land of Carinthie).

They belong to the whole of the the Alps juliennes.

The Hochstuhl is the culminating point of the solid mass.

Geography

Situation

The solid mass is surrounded of the the Alps de Gurktal in north, of the the Alps de Lavanttal in the North-East, of the Pohorje in the east, the the kamnic Alps in south-east, of the solid mass of the the Alps juliennes in south-west, of the the carnic Alps in the west and of the the Alps de Gailtal in the North-West.

The chain, extended on 120 km, is longest of Europe.

It is sprinkled in north by the Drave and in the south by the Save.

Karavanke, as well as the kamnic Alps, form the natural border between Austria and Slovenia. Thus, trade route includes/understands many collars. One of them, the Loiblpass (in Slovenien Ljubelj ), of an altitude of 1.370 m, has been arranged for 300 years and is thus the oldest arranged collar of Europe. Nowadays, a tunnel crosses the assembly line and connects by highway the towns of Villach in Austria (in Slovenien Beljak ) and Ljubljana as Slovenia.

Excursion

Karavanke offer good opportunities for the hikers, thanks to their many refuges. The majority of the peaks as well as offer a sight on the basin of the Klagenfurt (in Slovenien Celovec ) on other deeper valleys Slovenien side. The Austrian part more mountainous and is escarpée, while the Slovenien part is softer and glaze of forests, meadows and wood.
