Karaj

Karaj كرج is a town of Iran, located in the Province of Teheran. The city is located 30 km at the west of Teheran, with the foot of the mounts Elbourz.

Karaj is being absorptive in the mégapole of Teheran.

History

The history of Karaj goes back to the first empires in Iran. The temple of fire zoroastrien of Takht-e-Rostam, dating from the time Parthian in is a testimony.

Among the historic buildings of the city, one can quote the Soleimanieh palate (currently accommodating a faculty of agronomy), the mausoleum of Shahzadeh Soleiman , the Imamzadeh Rahman and Zeid Palang Abad-e-Eshtehard.

During the reign of the Pahlavi, the Morvarid palate was built in Mehrshahr, one of the districts of the city, palate which was drawn by the Fondation Frank Lloyd Wright .

Karaj today

The base of the saving in Karaj is its proximity with Teheran, and its position between the Caspian Sea and the capital makes it possible to be an important node of transport. The processed products of agriculture, the chemicals and manures are also manufactured in quantity in the area.

The city is connected by highway and railroad with Teheran and Qazvin (to 100  km with the North-West), and the network of the subway of Teheran arrives until Karaj.

The stopping Amirkabir is located at the top of the city, just as of other small lakes; what returns the climate of Karaj a little fresher than that of Teheran, thus attracting many Téhéranis wanting to move away a little the capital.
