Karabach

Karabach (in Russian: Карабаш) is a city of the Oblast de Tchéliabinsk, in Russia. The city is located at 90 km in the North-West of Tchéliabinsk. Its population high with: 15400 inhabitants in 2007.

Karabach was founded in 1822 for the workers of gold mines. It has the statute of city since the June 20th 1933.

Economy

The saving in Karabach rests since 1910 on an important foundry of non-ferrous metals, mainly of copper, company Karabachmed (Карабашмедь), which is at the origin of a very serious pollution of the area of Karabach. For this reason, the factory had been closed in 1987, removing: 3500 employment. But it was reopened in 1998 with 1  400 paid.
