Kara Mustafa
Pasha Kara Mustafa de Merzifon (Merzifon 1634 - Belgrade 1683), or Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha , was a large Othoman soldier , which was distinguished in Eastern Europe.
Born in 1634 in the town of Merzifon (current Merzovan), he was the son of Sipahi (Othoman soldier). Its ugliness would have been worth to him, the nickname of Kara (black). Adopted in its young age by the Köprülü family, he became the messenger of Ahmed Köprülü, vizier of Damas. After several distinctions, it was named ordering troops of the area of Egée in 1663. In 1672, at the time of the war against the Poland, it gained a decisive victory, making it possible to annex to the Empire the area of Podolie. Later, other victories will make it possible to take the area of the Cossacks in the south of the Ukraine. In 1676, died of the top dog, Kara Mustafa succeeded to him.
Since 1681, the events turned to the disadvantage of the new top dog. The Cossacks revolted and the area was soon abandoned with the profit of Russia. In 1683, the battle against the Habsbourg, turned, in spite of length head office of Vienna, with the profit of the Austro-Hungarians and their Polish allies. The Othomans withdrew themselves in Hungary and definitively gave up taking the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
This defeat cost the life to the top dog, who was carried out on December 25th, 1683 in Belgrade by the Janissaire S on order of the Othoman Sultan.
