Kapuas
The river Kapuas (in indonésien: Sungai Kapuas ), length 1.143 km, is located in the province of Kalimantan on the island of Borneo. It is the longest river of Indonesia and the principal river of the Western part of Borneo. It is also the longest river located on an island.
The river takes its source in the mounts Kapuas Hulu at the border of the province of Sarawak (Malaysia) and runs towards the west. It flows in the southernmost China Sea to approximately 20 km of the town of Pontianak. Kapuas crosses the area of the Lac Sentarum which constitutes a protected natural reserve.
Kapuas is naviguable on most of its course and is an essential axis of circulation in the Western Kalimantan. It is used to evacuate the wood cut inside the island and gives access the establishments located along the river. The river is spanned by a bridge on the level of the agglomeration of Sanggau to approximately 400 km of its mouth.
