Kaolinite

The kaolinite is a Minéral composed of Silicate of hydrated Aluminum, from formula Al_2Si_2O_5 (OH) _4 \, of the family of the Phyllosilicate S. This name comes from the Chinese 高岭土, meaning ground of the high hills.

Data

  • Surface of contact: 5 to 20 m ² per gram (little reactivates)
  • 30 piled up layers form an elementary crystallite
  • Type of assembly: in interfoliaceous house of cards
  • space (between the layers) closed with hydrogen bonds
  • not of isomorphic substitutions

Layer

Kaolinite is a Argile of the type 1/1. That means that kaolinite layer is made of two layers:
  • an octahedral layer; Al (OH-) _5O: 7 atoms for 6 tops + Aluminimum in the center. The OH- and the Oxygen being divided between the different octahedral ones which compose the layer.
  • and a tetrahedral layer; SiO_4: 5 atoms for 4 tops + the Silica in the medium. Oxygens being divided between the various tetrahedrons which compose the layer.

Layers

Kaolinite is in the argillaceous Roche S, like the kaolin, or in the magmatic rocks, result of the deterioration of the Feldspath S, of the Granite S.

Use

  • kaolinite is largely used in Céramique.
  • Used by oral way, it makes it possible to treat certain digestive disorders. It papers the gastro-intestinal mucous membrane, protects it, assistance to its cicatrization and absorbs the Toxine S present in the digestive tract (it has a strong absorptivity indeed). Thus kaolinite is excellent for the problems of Estomac, distensions and too fast transit.
  • kaolinite calcined is used in the biological Lutte against the ashy Puceron of the apple tree.
