Kantele

Białystok (in Belorusse: Беласток , in Lithuanian: Balstogė ) is more the big city of the North-East of the Poland, chief town of the Voïvodie de Podlasie, close to the borders Belorusse and Lithuanian. It was founded by Gediminas. It counted 295.000 inhabitants in 2006 (2001 - 286.000). It is an industrial town (textile industries, food, chemical and mechanical).

It is in this city that committed suicide Henning von Tresckow, the July 21st 1944 after the failure of sound attack against Adolf Hitler, the July 20th 1944.

It is also the birthplace of the doctor Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof (francized Louis-Lazare Zamenhof), (December 15th, 1859 - April 14th, 1917), a doctor ophtalmologist born in current Poland, of Russian native tongue and Jewish confession. He is known to have established the bases of the built language Esperanto, always used nowadays. The name of this language comes from its pseudonym, Doctor Esperanto, “Hoping Doctor or Doctor which hope”.
