Geography

The border regions are: in north the Pirkanmaa, the east the Päijät-Häme, the west the Finland of South-west and in the south the Uusimaa.

History

This area is practically superimposed on the old south-western branch of the historical province of the Häme. It is also its historical heart, with in particular the castle of Hämeenlinna, whose construction began in 1260.
