Kanken

The Kanken is an aptitude test in Kanji S Japanese. Its name is the abbreviation of nihon kanji nōryoku kentei shiken (日本漢字能力検定試験), which means Aptitude test in kanjis Japanese , and one finds also sometimes kanji kentei (漢字検定).

Kanken sanctions a reading level, of writing and correct use of the kanjis. There exists in 12 different levels, of level 10 (easiest) on level 1 (most difficult), with pre-2 and pre-1 intercalated levels. He is recognized by the Japanese Minister of education starting from level 8. He lasts 40 min for the levels between the 10 and the 8, and 1 hour for the following. The percentages of good answers necessary for obtaining the test are of 80% for levels 10 to 8, of 70% for the following until the preone, and again of 80% for level 2.

Kanken being devoted only to the kanjis, this examination does not have the same objectives as the Aptitude test in Japanese, but it can be to him complementary. It in the beginning is intended to the native Japanese speakers, but it can be last by any person whatever her nationality. Centers of examination are installed apart from Japan, in theory for the Japanese community living on the spot. It seems however that the pre-1 levels and 1 can be last only in Japan. Three exam sessions have place per annum, in February, in June and in October.
