Kanggye

Kanggye is a town of North Korea (in hangeul: 강계시, in characters hanja: 江界市), chief town of the province of Jagang (another orthography: Chagang). Its population rises with 258.500 inhabitants (source: ).

Located at the confluence of four rivers (whose river Changja), the city occupies a strategic position which continued since the Korean dynasty of the IH (1392-1910).

Transport

Kanggye constitutes a road junction and railway and a turntable of air transport in North Korea. It is located at the crossing of the railway lines of Kanggye and Manpo. A highway connects it to Pyongyang and other North-Korean cities. A civil airport and military Kanggye dessert.

Culture

The city shelters a university.

The house of Inphung and the Ryonhwa mounts are the principal tourist sites.

Economy

The industrial activities (in particular, metallurgy and armament) quickly developed since 1945.

The area of Kanggye shelters mines of Cuivre, of Zinc, coal and Graphite.
