Kampfgruppe
A Kampfgruppe (“group of combat”) is a unit of combat used in the Wehrmacht (armed German) during the Second world war.
The Kampfgruppe is generally the regrouping of the best elements of a larger unit (Kampfgruppe Peiper was the gathering of the best elements of the 1st regiment Panzer S).
It happens that units decimated with the combat are gathered in a group of combat to preserve a combative level, that was seen in the book of August von Kageneck, " The War in Est" or, during the retirement of the Group of Army Centers, the 18th Pomegranate Regiment of Wehrmacht sees its 3rd battle being transformed into a Group of Combat n°3.
