Kamień Pomorski
Kamień Pomorski (in German Cammin or Kammin , in Kachoube Kamién ) is a town of Poland located in the Voïvodie de Poméranie Occidentale (Powiat de Kamień, Gmina Kamień Pomorski). With the December 31st 2005, the city counted 9.123 inhabitants.
Geographical location
Kamień Pomorski is a city located at the North-West of Poland, to 90 km in the North-East of Szczecin, in edge of the Golfe Kamieński. The coast of the the Baltic is to 8 km of the city. The waterway of the Dziwna allows an direct access with the sea. In the west of Kamień Pomorski the island Chrząszczewska is.
History
In 1176 (or 1182?), Kamień Pomorski becomes the seat of the diocese of Poméranie, seat which was previously with Wolin. Kamień Pomorski was in the historical area of Poméranie Centrale and regularly the dukes of Poméranie resided at it. Starting from 1228, the Dominicains are implied in the religious affairs of Kamień. In 1274, Kamień Pomorski receives the urban Privilège S (the Droit of Lübeck).Following the Treated of Westphalia (1648) which concludes the war from Thirty Years, the city passes under control Swedish. Acquired by the Brandebourg-Prussia in 1679, the city finds in the Royaume of Prussia in 1701. Until 1945, the city will remain under Prussian sovereignty , then German. In 1945, following the Conference of Potsdam, the city is attached to Poland. The Germans are expelled and replaced by Poles.
