Kalemegdan

Kalemegdan (in Serb Cyrillic Калемегдан) is old a Forteresse located at Belgrade, at the place where the Save is thrown in the the Danube.

History

The name Kalemegdan refers to the plate on which the fortress is located.

At the time where a garrison still the fortress occupied, the plate was used as station from where the enemy could be observed and waited for the combat; its name comes from the Turkish word " kale " who means the " forteresse" and of " meydan ", " the place".

The Turks called also Kalemegdan of the name of the " fichir-bajir" what means " hill for réfléchir"

The fortress was transformed into Parc at the 19th century. It is today a historical and cultural complex important.
