Kailash

The Kailash or Kangrinboqe Feng or Kailâsa is the name of an assembly line of the Plateau Tibetan like that of sound plus high summit. It is also more the high mountain of the Tibet apart from the the Himalayas. Located in the Prefecture of Ngari, near the Lake Manasarovar and of the Lake Rakshastal, it is with the source of four of the largest rivers of Asie : the Gange, the Brahmapoutra, the Indus and the Sutlej. This mountain is the center of the universe Bouddhiste, it is also a place crowned for the Hindou S, the jains and the bönpos since centuries.

The word Kailâsa means crystal in Hindî. The Tibetans name it Ghang Rimpoche or Khang Ripoche , which means the invaluable jewel of snows and the jaïns Ashtapada . It is also called Tise or Meru .

Rises

This forever climbed top. In 2001, the advertisement of a license granted by China to the Spanish mountaineer Xesus Novas (or Jesus Martinez Novàs) caused a great agitation and a unanimous reprobation.

A Spanish forwarding directed by Jesus Martinez Novàs required and obtained on behalf of the Chinese authorities the permission to try the rise of the Kailash Mount to the Tibet. The May 8th, the Gouvernement Tibetan in exile had declared: “We were deeply affected by learning that the Chinese authorities gave the permission to a group of Spanish mountaineers to make the rise of the Rinpoche Gang - the Kailash mount -, which is crowned for three great religions. The Hindus, the Buddhists and the faithful ones of Bön, religion prevalent in Tibet before the advent of Buddhism, indeed regard Gang Rinpoche as a crowned mountain. For the Hindus, Gang Rinpoche is the symbol of the Mount Meru, the center of the universe. The Buddhists Tibetans consider this mountain as the residence of Demchog and Dorje Phangmo, symbolizing the union of the male and female forces. It is the case also for the faithful ones of bön. To require the permission to climb on Kailash, as well as to grant this permission, is clearly, on behalf of this group of Spanish mountaineers and of China, the negation of religious feelings which animate the faithful ones of three of the great religions of the world. We exhort the group of Spanish mountaineers all the more to give up this adventure outrageante that the freedom of religion in Tibet is violently repressed by the authorities Chinese. To treat the mountain most crowned with the world as a vulgar sports ground would constitute the proof of an obvious insensitivity with respect to the religious feelings of the people Tibetan. ” Many associations interdependent of the Tibetans, but also of mountaineers, had protested, and finally, China prohibited any rise of the Kailash Mount, affirming even never not to have granted the authorization.

Religious significance

The top of Kailâsa is regarded as the residence of Shiva and its Shakti Pârvatî - literally girl of the mountain - what explains its character crowned for the Hindus who also see it like a Lingam accompanied by the yoni symbolized by the Lac Manasarovar. According to a legend, during a dispute with a monk bön, the Master Milarepa, to show its superiority, would have been transported at the top of the mountain on an sun ray.
