Kahone
Kahone is a city of the west of the Senegal, located at approximately 5 km in the North-East of Kaolack
History
Kahone was the capital of the Sine-Saloum since the 15th century, but it lost this privileged position when the colonial administration preferred Kaolack to him.In this proud locality of his prestigious past, one can see a giant baobab tree (Guy-Gu-Rëy-GUI), now laid down, which was used formerly as refuge with the circoncis during several weeks.
Each year in May proceeds Gamou de Kahone, a traditional demonstration going back to the 16th century, of the time of Bour Saloum (king of Saloum) Latmingué Diélène Ndiaye. One can observe there ritual dances with masks, as well as meetings of divination intended to predict the course of the wintering, i.e. of the rain season. Gamou joins together all the provinces of the kingdom.
Administration
Set up in commune in 1996, Kahone formed initially part of the Département of Gossas in the area of Fatick.Since 2002, it is one of the sub-prefectures of the Département of Kaolack, a subdivision of the area of Kaolack.
Geography
In addition to Kaolack, the closest localities are Tiofak, Ngokare, Maka Kahone and Palado.
Population
At the time of the census of 2002, the population rose with 5.405 people.In 2007, according to the official estimates, Kahone would count 5.852 inhabitants.
Economy
The local resources come mainly from agriculture, but of the industrialist development projects are in hand - a factory of shelling of the Coton was brought there into service as of the beginning of the Années 1970 - and the rise of tourism in particular related to the vestiges of passed in this area.
