Kaffrine

Kaffrine is a city of the mid-west of the Senegal, located at approximately 50 km of Kaolack.

History

In 1967, the Stations of Senegal emitted a stamp dedicated to the stone megalithic quadrant of Kaffrine.

Administration

It is the prefecture and the principal city of the Département of Kaffrine. Kaffine is set up in chief town of its own area by Abdoulaye Wade in 2007.

Since 2002, the mayor of Kaffrine is El hadj Babacar Gaye.

Geography

Kaffrine is located on the trunk road N1 Kaolack - Tambacounda, in an environment mainly made up of fields of Arachide, Baobab S and thorny.

Population

At the time of the censuses of 1988 and 2002, the population was respectively of 16.957 and 25.768 inhabitants.

In 2007, according to the official estimates, the city would count 28.396 people.

The closest localities are Toune, Ngam, Kilometre Six, Diogo, Djigui and Lougue.

Economic activities

Kaffrine saw mainly Arachide and trade.
