Köniz

Köniz is a common Suisse of the Canton of Bern, located in the District of Bern.

Geography

Located at the south of Bern, Köniz is, by its population (37 ' 067 inhabitants) the twelfth town of Suisse. This city of the Bernese suburbs is also the largest commune located in an agglomeration in Switzerland. It extends on 51 square kilometers.

The commune of Köniz includes a score of villages: Wabern, Liebefeld, Spiegel, Schliern, Niederscherli, Niederwangen, Oberwangen, Schwanden, Thörishaus, Mittelhäusern, Ried, Gasel, Oberscherli, Hahlen, Liebewil, Moos, Ulmiz, Mengestorf, Oberried, Schlatt and Herzwil.

History

The common current policy appeared in 1846.

The Gurten Brewery, located at Wabern, ceased its activity in 1997.
