Königssee
The Königssee is a Lac in the south-east of the Bavaria, in the Berchtesgaden er Land, not far from the commune of Schönau amndt Königssee. Of rectangular form, it is surrounded by high mountains as the Watzmann In the south of Königssee is the Obersee, which is only a few meters higher.
During the last Glaciation, this deep lake was formed by the movements of the glaciers and was retained by a natural stopping with its flow. The beauty of the lake and its bank are at the origin of the “national park of Berchtesgaden” which includes most of the lake.
Situation
The lake runs out by “Königsseer Ache”, “Berchtesgadener Ache” and “Königsseeache” towards Salzach, in Austria. The “Eistal” (literally “Valley of ice”), dug by the “Eisbach” opens in the center of the “Watzmann”. Remains carried by the brook foment a peninsula of 85 ha, the “Hirschau” where are the vault St Bartholomä and a relay of hunting (currently restoring with terrace).
The lake is rich in fish: Trout S, ombles knights.
April until October, “Bayrische Seeschifffahrt Königssee” transports thousands of tourists in Sankt Bartholomä.
In winter, the lake was regularly cold until the Années 1990. But there was and there are still accidents on the ice. Once, in 1964, a small car ran with its driver in water.
