Kéraban-the-obstinate

Kéraban-the-Obstinate is a Romance of Jules Verne published in 1883, describing the tribulations of a salesman of Turkish tobacco (Kéraban) and one of its Dutch customers around the Black Sea. Kéraban, proud and obstinate refuses to discharge a tax imposed suddenly by the sultan for the crossing of the the Bosphorus. It thus decides to rejoin Constantinople (Istanbul) in Scutari (Uskudar) by making it tower of the Black Sea.

This novel of adventure (enough misogynist) is one of most comic and the least known of Jules Verne. The author exploits with talent mollesse of the Batavian tradesman and the inflexible character of Kéraban. Per moment, the marital problems of Jules Verne show through in the account.
