Kélibia

Kélibia (rear RTL قليبية) is a coastal town of the North-East of the Tunisia. Located at the point of the Peninsula of the Cape Good (with 106 kilometers of Tunis), it is the third city of the Gouvernorat of Nabeul after Nabeul and Hammamet.

It is the Chef-lieu of a delegation and a municipality of 43.209 inhabitants. It is in addition the 1st fishing port of Tunisia with a production of 15.000 tons various products of the sea per annum.

Its beautiful beaches, whose Mansoura which is regarded as one of most beautiful of the Mediterranean, make a tourist destination of it appraisal.

The Muscatel of Kélibia, fruity Wine and dryness produced in the area, is famous through the country.

History

Named Aspis or Clypea in the Antiquité, when it belongs to the Byzacène, it is founded by Agathoclès and is thus named words aspis and clypeus , one Greek and the other Latin, which means both “shield”. Indeed, the Hill on which the city is built with the shape of a shield.

It is transformed into Roman colony in 45 before J. - C..

Sports

Kélibia is one of the strongholds of the Tunisian Volley-ball with the team of the Olympic Club of Kélibia.
