Károlos Papoúlias

Károlos Papoúlias (in Greek Κάρολος Παπούλιας) is a Greek politician .

Born with Ioannina the June 4th 1929, Papoúlias studies the right to the Université of Athens like to Munich and obtains the title of doctor in right to the University of Cologne. During the occupation of the Greece by the German army during the Second world war, it takes share with the Résistance. Exiled during the Dictatorship of the colonels (1967 - 1974), he collaborates regularly in the emission in Greek language of the Deutsche Welle, denouncing the crimes of the junta.

He takes part in the foundation of the Socialist Movement Panhellénique (PASOK) and sits at the Central committee of the party. Elected official appointed (representing the district of Ioannina) in 1977 pennies the colors of PASOK, it preserves this station until 2004 and becomes Foreign Minister of the July 26th 1985 with the July 2nd 1989 then one second time of the October 13rd 1993 with the January 21st 1996. As a Foreign Minister, it takes part in the resolution of several diplomatic crises, in particular in the the Middle East. Károlos Papoúlias also plays a big role in the process of integration of the République of Cyprus to the European Union in 2004.

He is elected on February 8th, 2005 chair Republic on a proposal from preserving the Prime Minister Kóstas Karamanlís.

Károlos Papoúlias is married and father of three girls.
