Juziers

Juziers is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at approximately 10 km in the east of Mantes-the-Pretty.

Juziers is a “city carries” of the Regional natural park of French Vexin and is candidate to integrate the park in 2005.

The name of Juziers would derive from a name of origin Germanic, Giso or Gesei .

The inhabitants are called Juziérois.

Geography

Located on northern bank of the the Seine, Juziers is a residential and rural commune, of which the undulating and wooded northern part is in extreme cases of French Vexin.

It is bordering on Gargenville in the west, of Brueil-in-Vexin and Oinville-on-Montcient in north, of the Mézy-on-Seine in the east. In the south, the Seine separates it from the commune of Aubergenville. It includes part of the island of Mézy.

The commune is served by the secondary road D190 which connect Limay to Poissy by northern bank of the Seine, and by a station of the railway line Paris-Saint-Lazare - Mantes-the-Pretty via Conflans-Holy-Honorine.

History

This blazon takes again the weapons of the Abbaye Saint-Father-in-Valley, the central escutcheon appearing the blazon of Île-de-France.* In 978, the countess of Letgarde yields the ground of Juziers to the Abbaye Saint-Father-in-Valley of Chartres.

  • In 987, the monks found the priory of Juziers. This building will be sold like national good in 1793.

    • Church Saint-Michel: church of Romance style Grinding stone of the 11th century. Classified historic building but closed with the public (open on rare occasions).

  • Personalities

    • Ferdinand Vat (1859 - 1952), draftsman, caricaturist and writer, lived five years with Juziers in its residence of the “Hermitage of Apremont”.
