Justin O. Schmidt
Justin O. Schmidt is a American Entomologiste, joint author of Insect Defenses: Adaptive Mechanisms and Strategies off Prey and Predators and creator of the Schmidt index of the painfulness of the insect bites.
The Schmidt index
The Schmidt index of painfulness of the punctures of Hyménoptères (Justin O. Schmidt Bread Index) was created by Justin O. Schmidt. Having been piqué by almost all the types of bees, wasps, and ants, Schmidt created (at its lost hours) an index to compare the painfulness of their punctures on the basis of scale with four levels.-
1.0 Bee of sweat (" Sweat bee") : light, transitory, almost fruity pain. A small spark burned a hair of your arm.
- 1.2 Ant of fire: pain acute, sudden, slightly alarming: resemble the feeling to go on a carpet while seeking the switch of the light.
- 1.8 Ant of the Acacia will cornigera (Bullhorn acacia): rare pain, piercing, high: somebody inserted you a agraphe in the cheek.
- 2.0 Frelon with face bald person: rich pain, : similar to the feeling to have your hand taken in a revolving door.
- 2.0 Wasp Vespula : pain hot and smoking, almost that irrévérentieuse: imagine WC Fields to extinguish its cigar on your language.
- 2.x Bee with honey, Africanized bee and European Frelon.
- 3.0 red récolteuse Ant (" Red harvester") : somebody uses a drill to extract your incarnated nail.
- 3.0 Wasp Polistes : caustic and extreme pain. Back distinct bitter taste: resemble the feeling to have an hydrochloric acid beaker versed on a cut with the razor.
- 4.0 Wasp Pepsis : pain plugging, wild, shockingly electric: a cig connected hair was thrown in your bath with bubble (if you are piqué you could as well be by ground groaning).
- 4.0+ Ant Paraponera (in particular the Bullet ant (ant bullet): P. clavata ): pain pure, intense, brilliante: resemble the feeling to go on burning coals with a nail of 10 cm planted in the heel; the English name of bullet ant comes owing to the fact that the puncture points out the pain to be crossed by a ball of revolver.
Other orders of insects
The index of Schmidt relates to only the punctures of hyménoptères. However other insects cause punctures extrèmement painful like certain bugs of the family of the Bélostomatidé S (hémiptères).
