Justin Gatlin

Justin Gatlin , born the February 10th 1982 with New York, is a American Athlète practitioner the sprint. The August 23rd 2006, it was suspended for eight years of any sporting event due to doping. Before the suspension, it Co-held with Jamaïcain Asafa Powell the world records of the 100 meters in 9 seconds 77 hundredths established the May 12th 2006 at the time of a meeting with Doha.

Biography

Justing Gatlin was born with Brooklyn with New York. He was pupil with the Woodham High School with Pensacola in Florida.

At spring 2000, Gatlin arrives at the Université of Tennessee as a powerful athlete on the 110 m hedges. During two years, it is involved and taken part in contests within the university. It is pulled by Vince Anderson. Gatlin consecutively gained six titles National Collegiate Athletic Association .

In 2001, Gatlin is banished for two years of international competitions following a positive control with the Amphétamine S. Gatlin makes call because of its medical antecedents (of the disorders of the attention diagnosed during childhood) which oblige it to take these substances. The decision was revalued by IAAF (International Association off Athletics Federations).

Gatlin leaves Tennessee in spring 2002 at the end of its studies in order to join the professional world. Two years later, it gains the gold medal of the 100 meters (9" 85, second better time of the history with the J.O) with the Olympic Games of summer of 2004, imposing itself vis-a-vis Francis Obikwelu and Maurice Greene. It gains the bronze medal over 200 meters and the money medal as a member of the American team of 4 X 100 meters. The August 7th 2005, with the championships of the world of Helsinki, it overrides Kim Collins and gains the 100 meters in 9" 88. Its main adversary, Asafa Powell was absent because of a wound. Gatlin also is essential on 200 meters, a race largely dominated by the Americans, and becomes thus the second athlete (after Maurice Greene in 1999) to gain the two sprints during the same championship of the world.

The May 12th 2006, Gatlin, on 100m carries out the time of 9" 76 during the finale of the Super Turn of the IAAF with Doha (Qatar). He thinks of improving of a hundredth the preceding world records of 9" 77 obtained by Asafa Powell in 2005. But the May 16th 2006, the IAAF announces that the recorded time of 9" 766 had been rounded by error with 9" 76. According to the payment, it should have been round with 9" 77. Finally the May 17th 2006, the IAAF corrects the error of the judges by réatribuant the time of 9" 77 in Gatlin. It divides the world records with Powell henceforth.

Gatlin is currently involved and lives with Raleigh in North Carolina.

The July 29th 2006, Justin Gatlin announced with the media to be informed by the American Agency antidopage that it had been controlled positive with the Testostérone or one of its derivative products during a test antidopage carried out during the meeting of the Kansas Relay in April 2006. He however protested his innocence:

I cannot explain these results, because I never took any prohibited substance knowingly nor authorized anyone to manage such a substance.

The August 23rd 2006, it is suspended for the eight years duration by USADA, the American agency antidopage. While agreeing to cooperate with it, Gatlin has thus escaped with the suspension with life. All its performances since the date of control, and among them its world records, were cancelled.

Justin Gatlin however did not cut the bridges with the sport which made of him a star of the sport since it continues to involve young people coming from difficult districts. " The sport enabled me to escape from a world where violence belonged to the daily newspaper and I would like to be able to make share this experiment and the positive values of the athletics to these young people. If I succeeded that I will not have all perdu" he declared in January 2007 in the columns of " sports week"
