Jurassic 5

Jurassic 5 is a group of American Rap of Los Angeles.

Biography

Even if the west coast remains very often known for its native Gangsta rap it also knew to open towards a Hip hop fresh by putting a little sun and innovation in a hip-hop of inspiration east coast. This new scene, remainder of heart underground above all, is confined in second half of years 1990 of groups from now on impossible to circumvent such as Dilated Peoples , Pharcyde, Blackalicious and Jurassic 5.

Coming straight of the beautiful city from the angels, J5 is in the beginning the union of two groups Rebels Of Rhythm and Unity Committee. Four MCs and two deejays will thus meet under the pseudos of Chali 2na, Zaakir, Akil, Marc 7, Cut Chemist, Naked-Mark and will begin with côtoyer Good Life Café located into full South Central with Los Angeles at the time of open evenings mic and participant in some spectacles. The officialization of the creation of the group passes by the exit at Blunt/TVT of the maximum Unified Rebelution which made known them purists. Quickly, the group takes its independence with the Rumble label and waits to leave the label to leave its EP.

In June 2000, almost seven years after their formation, the group leaves an album 15 titles. On the titles “LAUSD” and “Monkey Bars”, the group returns to the sources while paying homage to famous “The Bridge” of MC Shan and to the old school in general:

" Now you know custom drank it' S not the Cold Crush, furnace MC' S so it ain' T the Furious/Not the Force MCs gold the three from Treacherous, it' S.A. blast from the past from the moment we bust."

They evoke also more serious subjects as on “World off Entertainment (Woe Is Me)” or “Contribution” where they treat harmful majors and their effects on the contents of rep. Under certain aspects, Jurassic 5 can be regarded as a group conscious and purist reflecting almost the heart of the old groups of the golden age and the original values of the movement hip-hop.

After a long round and some projects of Cut Chemist, it is in October 2002 that Jurassic 5 return with a very new disc entitled Power In Numbers . On this album the group is more committed, more mature and touches subjects more sensitive and varied while remaining faithful to its usual policy. Thus on “Freedom”, Chali 2na At Akil evoke poverty in the third world and the system American penitentiary and on “Remember His Name” and “Thin Line” with Nelly Furtado, in fact the risks of the daily life are with the honor. One returns to the old golden delicious with “What' S Golden” precisely (first individual extracted) and “has Day At The Races” with the guest number one of the album: Big Daddy Kane . Kool Keith comes to pose a has cappella and Juju occupies the productions of two titles. The remainder is carried out by both crate-diggers group Cut Chemist and DJ Naked-Mark. With final the album is a success but it does not obtain echoes as favorable as the precedents, true traditional undergrounds.

In 2006, Jurassic 5 return in the vats with a new album entitled " Feedback" (exit on July 28th). From now on, the group does not understand any more that 5 members (that falls well!) since Cut Chemist, one of the two DJ of the formation, decided to leave to sail in solo. For as much, the freshness and the original spirit of Jurassic 5 were not affected. It would even have, says one, reaches a new stage… One there discover in particular a title with the orchestrations " old school" Zapp way or of the rapologic ballades of which they only have the secrecy. Feedback is listened of a draft. Jurassic 5 honor their statute with weight lours of the industry of a rap known as " conscient".
