    • Japan: startup between Ueno and Sapporo of the named night trains “Cassiopée” by the national company East Japan Railway.
    • India: a passenger train of the Indian Railroads enters in collision with a train of freight having run off the line close to Mathura: 17 people are killed and 200 others wounded.
