Julius Bassianus
Julius Bassianus is a priest of the god sun Élagabal, town of Emèse located on the edges of the river Oronte, placed very well on the road which passes by Palmyre, to go to the Mediterranean and in the Roman empire.
The dates of the priesthood of Julius Bassianus are not known, it was already large priest in 182 when the Legate of the IV {{E}} scythic legion, Septime Sévère, visited the city. Bassianus introduced his/her two daughters to him, the elder one was called Julia Maesa married with the noble Syrian Julius Avitus Alexianus who made his beginnings like member of the equestrian Ordre, his other daughter, Julia Domna was not married.
Thereafter in 187 she marries Septime Sévère which, set on astrology, had consulted the horoscopes of the noble young girls of the empire and had noticed that the horoscope of Julia Domna, said that she would marry a king.
Julius Bassianus probably died towards 217. Indeed, at this date the young person Varius Avitus Bassianus more known under the name of Héliogabale, which was not other than its back grandson takes priesthood in his place.
