Receipts of Juliette
Gréco endeavors to interpret and reveal new authors and type-setters, step artistic which seems to fill with enthusiasm it more than to write itself its songs. She tests herself nevertheless with the writing in her two albums recorded under the label RCA Victor. Thus, she interprets very sensuellement, on a music of Gerard Jouannest, the Evil of time (1975) and Pays of insanity (1977) while she appears to prefer the title which she devotes to maternity, the Child .But its success of author-interprets is surely its receipt of the “ Suprême of poultry to the shrimps ” which it outputs with greediness and jubilation in 1969 on a music of Marius Constant adapted for the circumstance by Michel Legrand: a treat…
The interpreter and his authors
. . . - Tele Emission of 1966
During this emission which is entirely devoted to him, Gréco is surrounded by some of its authors and type-setters, an incredible plate filled with legends of the French song, inter alia: Charles Trenet, Joseph Kosma, Francoise Sagan, Serge Gainsbourg and Pierre Louki. Two of them testify as follows:- Joseph Kosma: You changed the face of the song because your choice is always poetry. The song is not always poetic and then you really did something of very important. Simply, you exist, that is enough.
- Serge Gainsbourg (after having interpreted the Javanese ): This Javanese , which was so misunderstood because I speak there Javanese, I wrote it for Juliette Gréco and I gave at once him his return of the Americas (sic) in May 1963. I think of being a privileged author since she sang me and I think that there is not an author worthy of this name or at least having so much is little literary behavior which did not wish to write for her.
- Near Pierre Louki, Gréco is afflicted that the talent of this one is not recognized with its right value:
- Gréco : Me, which makes me very, very pleasure, it is that you have very a large range. I.e. you can as well write songs like that Vrais buddies '', that it has just interpreted or as twenty years ago , or like the Sardines , or the Kid with the buttons …
- Pierre Louki: That made five, six years (or perhaps even seven or eight years) which I listened to the songs of Juliette Gréco and I said myself, finally, never she will not sing me… And then one Friday or a Thursday evening, finally in all the cases the day before, I received a telephone call saying to me, come to such studio at such hour, one records you the dead Tree . I was not at all with the current and then I said, who records me the dead Tree ? One said to me: Juliette Gréco. And that, I must say that I did not return from there at all and then now, I am bougrement content… (Gréco sings On the dead Tree , words of Pierre Louki and music of Colette Mansard, 1963).
Quotations
- Jean-Paul Sartre: Juliette Gréco has million in the throat; million poems which are not written yet, which one will write some. One parts for certain actors, why wouldn't one make makes poems for a voice?
- Pierre Mac Orlan: If you hear a voice which is the call of the shade, it is Gréco. If the closed eyes, you hear the song of your adolescence… it is Gréco. It is Juliette Gréco who carries out the song at which claims to him.
- Alice Sapritch: I knew it with Saint-Germain-of-Meadows when it was 16 years old. She chantonnait there already. It was called Toutoute. It was one hard times and the shoes missed as the remainder. I offered of it to him a pair in crepe soles, it was rare at the time. She speaks about it still today with much emotion. I could be upset with him a little because it did not do anything to help me to return to the cinema when it lived with Zanuck. It is a oublieuse person, but I am not upset with him his lacks. I like it and I appreciate the way in which it made its way.
- Jean-Pierre Melville (in connection with its film When you read this letter ): Gréco, it was the side not wise of film. Juliette forever be of the cinema. Even at the time where she lived with Darryl Zanuck, she belonged to this world forever. I loved much Juliette, an intelligent, really very beautiful girl. When one remembers small the boulotte 47-48… During turning it was so thin that I called it the limanda…
- Benjamin Biolay, in connection with their collaboration: Gréco, would be necessary to be idiot to refuse. It was nevertheless the girl who typed Miles Davis, which was in the camps. It incarnates France which I like, a strong ideology.
