Julien Péridier

Julien Péridier , born in 1882 and dead the April 19th 1967, is an engineer in electricity and a astronomer amateur. He was the husband of Adrienne White-Péridier, author of parts in an act, novels and biographies.

Biography

In 1933, Julien Péridier creates a private observatory in the commune of the Houga. In 1959, it takes part in the observation of the Occultation of Régulus by Venus. The success of its work is the starting point of a five years collaboration with NASA.

With its death, its library and its instruments are acquired by the observatory of the Université of Texas in order to be used to teach astronomy. The Télescope of 8 inches of Houga proves very useful for the study of planets and the training of the young astronomers.

In recognition of his work, Julien Péridier was appointed officer of the Légion of honor. A crater of Mars bears its name.
