Julien Marie Cosmao-Kerjulien
Julien Marie Cosmao-Kerjulien (November 27th 1761 with Châteaulin - February 17th 1825 with Brest) is a sailor French.
He began in the navy by a cruising in the colonies; he was then 15 years old. He takes part in the campaigns with the the Antilles (1777) and in Guyana (1780), like with the Guerre of independence of the United States of America on the coasts of France. In 1781, it took to share with two engagements on the brig the Swallow , and was pointed out by its intrepidity.
Named Lieutenant of frigate towards the end of this campaign, and Captain the April 4th 1793, whereas it ordered Thundering it , it seized the English frigate Alceste , and the 23 ventôse year III, on the same vessel, he was, him fourth, exposed during three hours and half with the fire of the enemy fleet.
The 3 messidor according to, with the head of a division, it fought with not less intrepidity against higher forces in the Golfe of Frejus. Constantly employed throughout all war of the French Republic with the important ones and perilous missions, it was named legionary and officer of the Order the 15 pluviôse and 25 meadow year XII, and took at the beginning of year XIII the command of the '' Pluton ''. It was him which operated, the 13 meadow one, the unloading of the troops in charge of the attack of the small island of Diamond. After the capture of the admiral Villeneuve and the death of the rear-admiral Magon the command falls to him, he manages to gather the remainder of the fleet and to make him rejoin Cadiz. October 23rd it made an exit with five Franco-Spanish vessels and threatened of such kind the English fleet that those separated from their catches.
It obtained for reward, of the Spanish government, the Grandesse of 1e class. The May 29th 1806, it is promoted Rear-admiral by Napoleon. Invested some time after command of a squadron in the the Mediterranean, it supplied the place of Barcelona for a considerable English fleet and honourable combat to him the November 5th 1813 and February 14th delivered 1814.
It is named baron of Empire the December 18th 1810 - it had already been made Grand of Spain after Trafalgar - Ordering Legion-with Honneur since the April 7th 1812, it became Chevalier of Saint-Louis the July 5th 1814.
During the Hundred Days, it is named maritime police chief of Brest and, the June 2nd 1815 it is made Pair France. Proscribed by the Bourbons, it was put at the retirement in 1816 and died in Brest the February 17th 1825.
